Not only do you need to come up with a feasible business idea - you also need to determine your target market and build an online store, among other things. With affiliate marketing, you do not need to do all these - especially the part where you need to think of a lucrative business concept. You already have the product, so all you have to do is promote it. And, contrary to what most people think, you don't even need to have a website to be able to do so.
Disadvantages:
There's always the risk of not getting paid for all your hard work. As with any endeavor, when you go into affiliate marketing, there's always the risk of falling into a trap. As this type of online business is one of the most popular ways of making money, there's bound to be a fraudulent merchant or two who will rip you off of your commission. There are documented cases wherein the business owner closes shop after making a profit without notifying his affiliate marketers - thereby depriving them of their income.
The amount you earn is neither regular nor consistent. Unless you have the means to foresee changes in the factors that affect how much commission you will receive for a certain period, you can't expect to make money with affiliate marketing regularly and in the same amount.
